IBBY Slovenia's activities are centred mostly on the International Children's Book Day, celebrating Hans Christian Andersen's birthday on 2 April: an exhibition and a symposium are organised annually at the Oton Župančič Library (cf.also Pionirska - Centre for Youth Literature and Librarianship), followed by an evening ceremony at the Slovene Writers’ Association. The Section is closely involved with reading promotion, co-organising the Slovene Book Quiz and co-operating with academic institutions, Slovene journals (such as Otrok in knjiga), authors, illustrators and publishers. It also fosters international links with the International Youth Library (IJB), the Biennale of Bratislava (BIB) and Bookbird, as well with neighbouring IBBY National Sections, and regularly recommends Slovene authors for the IBBY Awards and other international awards.
