Klovnbuf Festival

updated 2 days ago

Bufeto Institute is the first professional institute in Slovenia to introduce and develop the theatre of clown – a synthesis of clowning, circus skills, and acting. By merging circus traditions with dramaturgical principles, they question the boundaries of classical theatre as well as those of a typical circus show. They produce their own pieces and run an educational program, offering courses and symposiums led by nationally and internationally renowned teachers. Since 2008, they have organized the Klovnbuf Festival, an international Festival of New Circus and Contemporary Clown, which takes place each year in Ljubljana, usually in June, at indoor and outdoor venues.

Klovnbuf Festival is a festival of laughter that is to be taken seriously, as it brings together theater and circus arts and artists. The aim of the festival is to allow Slovenian audiences to encounter the most up-to-date trends and watch the most interesting shows of contemporary circus from all over Europe and beyond. Klovnbuf presents a variety of shows for general audiences of all ages and offers master classes and courses for those who have a creative interest in the contemporary circus.

Established in 2014, the Floating Castle Festival takes place in the picturesque surroundings of the Snežnik Castle. It actually started in 2013 as the Burning Castle Festival, derived from the experience of the HISTeRIA Festival (held in Istria). This congenial meeting of artists and various communities is an open-ended project from start to finish, and could best be described as a "folk-puppet-music-theatre site-specific event".

Its charismatic initiator and organiser is Matija Solce, a prolific musician, puppeteer, activist, actor and director who lives in the nearby village of Kozarišče.

updated 7 days ago

The Kino Otok – Isola Cinema International Film Festival has been exploring the art of film since 2004, discovering various film expressions in the company of filmmakers and an audience of all generations. It focuses on world, European, and Slovenian auteur cinema. Each edition features a carefully curated non-competitive program, including around eighty films of all lengths, most of which are shown in Slovenia for the first time. The festival’s Mediterranean character is manifested in the balance between ease and temperament, which functions as its magic formula – whoever visits it wants to return again and again.

The main part of the Kino Otok - Isola Cinema Festival takes place at the beginning of June in Izola, while some of the screenings and meetings with filmmakers also occur in May and June at the Slovenian Cinematheque and Kinodvor City Cinema in Ljubljana, as well as at the art cinemas in Cerknica, Idrija, Sežana, and Tolmin.

Summer in Velenje Festival

updated 10 days ago

The Summer in Velenje Festival was launched in 1984 under the name Summer Cultural Events in Velenje, marking one of the first multidisciplinary summer city festivals in Slovenia. Organized and coordinated by the Festival Velenje Public Institute, a public cultural organization since 2008, it offers a diverse program featuring music concerts, film screenings, theatre plays, children-oriented programs, and more. The festival spans throughout the summer months, from the end of June to August.

While a part of the program is organized by the institute itself, a significant portion is done in cooperation with other producers. Furthermore, a few other Velenje-based festivals, like the Kunigunda Festival of Young Cultures and a Zither festival called Prešmentane citre, are also incorporated into the wider context of the Summer Cultural Events.

Some of the festival venues include the Velenje Castle, the House of Culture Velenje and its yard, the banks of the Velenje and Škale lakes, the Old square of Velenje (Stari trg), and the many streets and parks of the city.

Rdeči revirji! - Red Beats! Festival

updated 8 days ago

Rdeči revirji! is an annual arts festival held in the three main towns of the Zasavje region. Active since 2003, it runs a rather distinctive programming policy by systematically merging very different approaches to arts and culture. It thus sets contemporary dance theatre side by side with a regional wind orchestra, follows a school theatre play with a new media art performance, and so on. Taking place in the towns of Hrastnik, Zagorje ob Savi and Trbovlje, the festival seeks to bring contemporary arts to the geographical periphery and present them to as wide a public as possible.

The programme includes theatre, dance, exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, etc. Most of the events take place on the streets and are free of charge. A significant part of the programme is meant for children and youth.
