The Slovene Arts & Culture Residencies Programme of the [[Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport]] kicked off in 1998 with renting the first apartment in [[Slovene Arts & Culture Residency, New York|the New York City]]. The residencies are reserved for the Slovene artists, curators, critics, producers etc. regardless of discipline. Based on their proposals the residents are selected by an expert committee for the following year. Concrete research projects and partnerships with the local organisations or experts are encouraged that can later on lead to the actual production of an art event or artwork. The residencies are limited to one or two months-stay. The ministry covers the rental, maintenance and travel costs.
