The Slovene Arts & Culture Residencies Programme of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport kicked off in 1998 with the first apartment in the New York City. The aim of the programme is to support the Slovene artists' presence abroad and to enhance their international visibility. Besides New York the ministry maintains another three apartments in the following cities: Berlin (since 2004), London (since 2008), and Vienna (since 2012).
The residencies are reserved for the Slovene artists, curators, critics, producers etc. regardless of discipline. Based on their proposals the residents are selected by an expert committee for the following year. Concrete research projects and partnerships with the local organisations or experts are encouraged that can later on lead to the actual production of an art event or artwork.
