The first beginnins of this reference library date in the year Established:1923, when the Archaeological Seminar was established at the University of Ljubljana. Its founding fond was based on purchasing the collection from the private library of archaeologist Luka Jelić from Zagreb.
After the Second World War the first structural changes are beign made. The inventary was made and the international exchange of the books began. In 1961 the library was moved to the head unit of Faculty of Arts at the Aškerčeva street, later in 1991 it was moved to its current location at the Zavetiška street.
In the late 1980s the part of the fond was categorised in the computer base, from the year 1999 the categorising is done by COBISS (Co-operative Online Bibliographic System & Services). From 1996 the library functions as unit of Faculty of Arts Central Humanities Library, University of Ljubljana.
Currently the fond has around 26.000 units and is the third largest library for the field of archaeology. The largest fond of around 50.000 units has the Archaeological Institute at the Slovenian Ac... The library functions mainly as a reading room. The library material can be lended over the weekend, this way the material is availabe on every working day. The library has a reading room with access to computers.
In the past and in currently the library is subscribed to archaeological journals and reference magazine from 38 countries around the world. The access to some of the electronical editions of the magazine is possible at the computers in library's reading room.
Culture.si offers information on Slovene cultural producers, venues, festivals and support services, all in one place. It encourages international cultural exchange in the fields of arts, culture and heritage. The portal and its content is owned and funded by the Ministry of Culture, funded by the European Union Recovery and Resilience Plan and developed by Ljudmila Art and Science Laboratory.
