The Department of Design Library was established simultaneously with the academy's Department of Design on Dolenjska Street in 1985. It has about 8,000 units of library materials. It is equipped with classic card catalogues and terminals. Since 1994, data have been entered into the COBISS/OPAC System.

The Academy of Fine Arts and Design library is the central library for modern art and design in Slovenia and has two sections: the central Department of Painting, Sculpture and Restoration Library serves the three departments, while the Department of Design Library focuses on design.
