The beginnings of librarianship in Domžale can be dated back to 1904. Since 1960 the library has enjoyed the status of a municipal library and in 1987 it finally obtained autonomous status as a public institution. Today it is one of most important information and cultural centres in Domžale, with branch libraries in Mengeš, Moravče, Šentvid, Trzin and Ihan, and mobile library services in Črni Graben and Radomlje. The library offers inter-library exchange, multimedia facilities and professional advice, a COBISS - Slovene Virtual Library/OPAC databases browsing service, Internet access and various events for youth as well as adults. It has a reading room seating 77.
