Computer Science teaching at the University of Ljubljana was initiated as early as 1973, and since 1982 it has been an autonomous studies subject. Today the Faculty of Computer and Information Science has about 1,613 undergraduate and 114 postgraduate students. It offers undergraduate, taught postgraduate and guided PhD research programmes in Computer and Information Science.

History

The Faculty of Computer and Information Science was founded in 1996 when the previous Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was split into two new faculties. The foundations of computer science at the University of Ljubljana date back to 1973 when the Computer Studies programme was established. Since 1982 the Computer Studies was organised as an independent study programme, also a postgraduate study was founded.

In 2003 intermedia artists from the Faculty of Computer and Information Science initiated ArtNetLab, most of whose projects have since been developed in collaboration with the Faculty's Computer Vision Laboratory and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design.
