Since the establishment of the independent Music School Velenje in 1960 there have been two music schools which joined in one Centre for musical and ballet education Velenje in 1965. Since 1993 the music school is also offering high-school education. This artistic high-school programme is co-organised with School Centre Velenje. The four-year programme can be taken separately or parallel with the regular high-school.
Fran Korun Koželjski (1868-1935) was music pedagogue and composer. He established first two schools for violin and zither in Slovenia, which is an important step because of the ability of learning in native language. His works are mostly written for choirs, diatonic harmonica and zither.
The school had and is still organising several different international and summer schools: International summer violin school, International organ school, International harp seminar, Clarinetists seminar, Saxophone seminar, International accordion seminar and Trumpet seminar.
