The Institute of Philosophy of the Scientific Research Centre (ZRC SAZU) at the Slovene Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU) was founded in 1979 as the Institute of Marxist Studies. It was renamed as the Institute of Philosophy in 1988. The research carried out by the institute covers the area of philosophy as it relates to science, to art, to politics, and to philosophy itself. The research areas which are systematically and continuously explored by researchers and associates of the institute are: ethics, aesthetics, contemporary philosophy, political and legal philosophy, the philosophy of language, history and the history of political thought, French epistemology, the philosophy of Kant, the philosophical significance of (Lacanian) psychoanalysis, and medieval philosophy.
