Named after Dr Franc Sušnik, Koroška Central Library performs the tasks of regional library for the Koroška Region. In 1949 a study library was established together with Ravne Grammar School in Ravne Castle. Dr Franc Sušnik ran the library for the first three decades of its existence. Today this library has around 7,000 registered readers and heads a network of 10 branch libraries in the Mežiška Valley; these include the Pionirska knjižnica Leopolda Suhodolčana (Youth Library) in Ravne and the branch libraries in Kotlje, Prevalje, Žerjav and Črna na Koroškem - Kotlje and Žerjav are housed in new, modern premises. Together the branch libraries hold a total of around 240,000 library units. The collections include the original of Dalmatin’s Bible from the 16th century and some other valuable documents from the 17th and 18th centuries. A special room is dedicated to Carinthian writer Lovro Kuhar, also known as Prežihov Voranc and to Leopold Suhodolčan, cf [[Prežihov Voranc and Leopold Suhadolčan Memorial Room]]. Since the 1990s there has been a sustained effort to develop computerised information systems, including the [[COBISS - Slovene Virtual Library]] network. Various events are organised for library users, including lifelong educational courses and creative workshops for children. The library also has plans to establish cross-border collaborations with Slovenes living in Austrian Carinthia. Collaboration within the Alps-Adriatic Network has already been established.
