Originally launched as a section of the Problemi Journal called Problemi-Literatura, the Literature Magazine became autonomous in 1989 with the establishment of the Literatura Literary Artistic Association. Since 1993 it has appeared monthly. Its editorial emphasis is on the presentation and commentary of new developments in contemporary Slovene as well as world literature.

The sections in the magazine are: Poetry, Prose, Encyclopaedia of Living Writers (essays and theory), Interview, The Last Course (translation of new forms and contents), Translation, Revisor (critical texts on ideological models), Front Line and Marginal Notes (critiques).
