Organised by Obalne galerije - Coastal Galleries and the Piranesi Foundation the international conference Piran Days of Architecture has taken place annually since 1983 during the last weekend in November in the medieval coastal town of Piran. Its aim is to assess current trends in architecture and present the most progressive and innovative ideas of architectural and spatial production.

The event is held in the beautiful surroundings of Tartini Theatre, and traditionally accompanied by the International Architectural Exhibition of recent works by Central European architects. The distinguished Piranesi Award is granted for best achievements in architecture along with two Piranesi Mentions and a Student Piranesi Award.

The Piran Days of Architecture is an important meeting of architects, students of architecture and amateurs from Central Europe. It presents significant contribution for promotion of Slovene architecture in the context of a broader European space, meanwhile offering a platform for effective cooperation of architects, economists and politicians, and the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences.

Themes

Recent themes of the seminar have included Between the Rational and the Irrational in Architecture (2003), Architect and Society (2004), Architectural Policies (2005), Exhibited Architecture (2006), PDA – 25 years of architecture (2007), Architectural Diversity (2008), and New Challenges (2009).

Exhibitions

The International Architectural Exhibition presents new architecture from Central Europe. In 2009 the main exhibition took place in the Piran City Gallery and featured recent architectural achievements from Austria, Italy, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia. Accompanying exhibitions have also taken place, including the display Houses of the World by Hiše Magazine, and Vertigo Bird Vertigo Light by Vertigo Bird.
