The [[Slovene Reading Association]] was established in 1995 with the motto 'to promote reading is to promote knowledge and more meaningful life'. Its goals are to disseminate knowledge through reading, to organise national and local events which promote reading, to raise awareness of the importance of reading and to support those involved with the teaching of reading.

The Association organises various important public debates and conferences. On the 2005 Day of Literacy (8 September) it organised the conference 'How to Improve Teaching Literacy in Schools', and in 2006 it staged a panel discussion on the implementation of the National Literacy Development Strategy at [[Cankarjev dom]].

The Slovene Reading Association was established in 1995 with the motto "to promote reading is to promote knowledge and a more meaningful life". It is the foremost association in Slovenia that joins professionals in a range of disciplines in a common effort to promote reading culture, that is, pedagogues, librarians, psychologists, editors and other experts.


By way of organising events such as round tables, discussions, lectures, they strive to raise awareness of the importance of reading, as well as provide support and training to individuals involved in the teaching and research of reading. The association holds a biennial professional conference on 8 September, International Literacy Day, and publishes the conference proceedings. Past conferences and round table discussions focused on topics such as the Role of Visual Elements in Communication, the Development of Reading and Literacy in Schools, Developing Reading Competence.
