Releases and shows
The band released their first EP poetically named Chapter I: The Current of Her Ocean Brings Me to My Knee under KAPA Records in autumn 2011. The release garnered critical acclaim from foreign and local media, it also reached 10th place on Radio Študent's best Slovene albums of 2011. Shortly after, the band, whichhad previously carried out just a few live shows, went on a southern Europe tour with fellow band Y, visiting Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, and Bulgaria. The Canyon Observer also played on dvatisoč11 organised by the Specialka team, combining the 6 most acclaimed Slovene bands from 2011 (selected by the Specialka team).
Regardless of the lack of live shows before the release of their EP, the Canyon Observer played as a support band for prominent foreign groups, such as Russian Circles at MIKK and Rosetta at Orto Bar. Their biggest success was opening for the band God is an Astronaut at Kino Šiška in 2012. The band toured around Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic in 2012 and 2013.
The second chapter of the EP (These Binds Will Set You Free) was released in 2012.
