The Borštnik Ring Award and Borštnik Awards are bestowed at the central celebration of Slovenian theatre, the Maribor Theatre Festival. Every year, the Borštnik Ring Award, the highest accolade for theatre actors in Slovenia, is presented alongside awards bestowed by a separate international expert jury for outstanding achievements of the previous year across a range of categories.

Borštnik Awards

The Borštnik Awards for achievements in repertory and independent theatres include the Grand Prix for best production, awards for direction and acting (including young actors), as well as awards for dramaturgy or artistic direction, stage design, costume design, music, make-up, sound design and translation, with the latter categories varying from year to year according to the jury. The jury also bestows a Special Borštnik Jury Award. The Association of Theatre Critics and Researchers of Slovenia also bestows an award for the best production of the past season.

Maribor Theatre Festival virtual exhibitions

Since 2012, the Maribor Theatre Festival, in collaboration with the Novi ZATO. Institute and the Slovenian Theatre Institute, has been creating a digital online exhibition of the previous year's festival highlights and winners of the Borštnik Grand Prix, Borštnik Awards and Borštnik Ring. Other collaborators include Prodok teater TV, Slovenian theatre houses and regional archives. The resulting virtual exhibition includes documentary photos, videos and audio excerpts of the winning performances and the closing awards ceremony. This activity has become an annual component of the festival, and the range of included years has expanded to years prior to 2012. The exhibitions are accessible at Sigledal.org - Slovene theatre portal and provide a comprehensive overview of the Borštnik Award winners.

Borštnik Ring laureates virtual gallery

The Borštnik Ring laureates from 1970 onward are presented on the Sigledal.org - Slovene theatre portal, with photo documents and video clips compiled by the Slovenian Theatre Institute.
