The Student Organization of the University of Ljubljana was established in 1990. Its principal mission is maintaining a high quality of education and offering a wide range of extracurricular activities. In addition, it organizes various events in the fields of culture, education, sports and entertainment. Operating under its auspices are several prominent cultural institutes and organizations, such as the Kersnikova Institute, the Academic Choir Tone Tomšič, the France Marolt Student Folk Dance Group, and Radio Študent.
