Formally founded in 2013, the Nagib Association grew out of the NagiB Contemporary Dance Festival, an annual festival for contemporary dance and performance art taking place in Maribor between 2005 and 2013.

In 2014, the festival was transformed into a year-long cycle of performances called Nagib na oder (Nagib on Stage), set up in the main regional theatre Narodni dom Maribor and led by the Nagib Association. The organisation also runs various side-projects, from occasional artist residencies to international research projects. It aims to enable reflection of contemporary art and to support artists and their creative striving.
