The Association of Puppeteers was established in 1993 and works to foster relationships between the young and middle generations of Slovene puppeteers. The Association promotes a professional approach in order to increase the quality of Slovene puppet theatre production and the artistic level of puppet theatre projects. It offers assistance in the preparation, production and post-production of puppet theatre projects to young artists.

Puppet theatre groups active in the Association include Barbara Bulatovič, Labirint Theatre, the Uš Puppet Theatre Company, Miss Bazilika Narrative Theatre, Lalanit Theatre and Lutke Zajec. The Association also facilitates numerous guest performances by puppet theatre projects in Slovenia and abroad. Some members of the Association regularly perform at international puppet theatre festivals, at which their productions have received several major international awards.
