Open House Slovenia Festival


Every year, the largest architecture festival in Slovenia, Open House Slovenia Festival, allows architecture enthusiasts and members of the public to visit architectural projects across the country free of charge. The aim of the festival is to present examples of the best practices of contemporary Slovenian architectural production and important cultural heritage as part of Slovenian culture and national identity.

Week of Slovenian Drama


Organised annually by the Prešeren Theatre Kranj since 1971, the prestigious theatre festival Week of Slovenian Drama presents the most successful performances based on a Slovene play or text and staged in the last season by Slovene theatres. The festival, which usually runs for nearly 2 weeks, concludes with a ceremony at which several awards are bestowed. The Grum Award is given for the best original Slovene play and the Award for a young playwright is given to the best play written by a young Slovene playwright. The Grün-Filipič Award is awarded for excellence in dramaturgy. Two awards are given for the best staging of a Slovene play appearing at the festival: the Šeligo Award, decided on by an expert jury, and the Audience Award, voted for by the festival audience.

Fields of Experimental Music in Slovenia

Let's take a ride on the term experimental music, which currently mainly defines certain more fringe musical practices, across the expanses of various musical plains, styles and genres. We can apply this (overly) broad term to designate the varied creative simmering in certain segments of the present-day Slovenian music scene. A scene that spans the realms of electro-acoustic music, musique concrète, experimental music in the context of modern classical music, free improvisation, experimental electronic music and sound art as well as their associated present-day trends. This scene is diverse and exceptionally agile. It has developed a strong infrastructure for itself (festivals, concert series, labels, international networks) and exists in the space between self-organising and DIY models and institutional environments.
