The Faculty of Computer and Information Science was established in 1996 when the former Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was restructured into two new faculties. The roots of computer science at the University of Ljubljana date back to 1973 when Computer Science was first offered to third-year students. Since 1982 it has been organised as an independent graduate and post-graduate study.
In 2003 intermedia artists from the faculty initiated ArtNetLab, the majority of whose projects have been developed in collaboration with the faculty's Computer Vision Laboratory and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design.
The faculty encourages student exchange between universities in Slovenia, specifically the faculties at the University of Ljubljana, University of Primorska, and University of Maribor. It encourages international cultural exchange in the fields of arts, culture and heritage. The portal and its content is owned and funded by the Ministry of Culture, funded by the European Union Recovery and Resilience Plan and developed by Ljudmila Art and Science Laboratory.
