Projects, created during last two years, are selected by national selectors. Each country (Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia and Slovenia) presents five projects. Part of the exhibition is the international student's Piranesi exhibition, presenting selected projects from eight different Faculties of Architecture (Ljubljana, Maribor, Graz, Vienna, Trst, Pescara, Zagreb, Split). The exhibition is presented at the Piran City Gallery. The international jury is composed of participating speakers of the conference.

Recent themes of the seminar have included Between the Rational and the Irrational in Architecture (2003), Architect and Society (2004), Architectural Policies (2005), Exhibited Architecture (2006), PDA – 25 years of architecture (2007), Architectural Diversity (2008), New Challenges (2009), and Reanimation of Architecture (2010).
The conference presents one of the few international expert meetings of architects hosted by Slovenia, with renowned architects from Europe and other parts of the world giving lectures: Friedrich Achleitner, Boris Podrecca, Heinz Tesar, Luigi Semerani, Gino Valle, Eduardo Souto de Moura, Alvaro Siza Viera, Peter Zumthor, Enric Miralles, Sverre Fehn, Kenneth Frampton, David Chipperfield, among others.
The 28th conference in 2010 hosted Till Schneider – Schneider & Schumacher Architekten, Saša Begović – 3LHD, Klaas Goris – Coussée & Goris architecten, Jurij Kobe – Atelier arhitekti, Quintus Miller – Miller & Maranta, Victor Mestre – vmsa arquitectos, Paul O. Robinson – University of Florida, School of Architecture, Bijoy Jain – Studio Mumbai architects, and the president of the jury Bijoy Jain.
Lecturers at the 27th international architectural conference and jury for the 2009 Piranesi Award were Maruša Zorec – Arrea Architecture, Milton Braga – MVBB, Robert McCarter , Saša Randić – Randić&Turato, Wang Shu – Amateur Architecture Studio, John Wardle – John Wardle Architects, Aaron Tan – RAD, Shelley McNamara and Yvonne Farrell – GRAFTON, and Diébédo Francis Kéré – KERE Architecture.
PDA conference is traditionally accompanied by several architectural exhibitions. The most important is the International Architectural Exhibition Piranesi of recent works by Central European architects which compete for distinguished international Piranesi Award. The 2010 exhibition was showcased in the warehouse Monfort in Portorož. The accompanied exhibitions included a photo exihition of Iwan Baan Brasili Chandigarh: Living with Modernity, an exibition of a workshop No-man's water by Hrvoje Njirić, and the exhibition Viktor Sulčič, 1895-1973, architect that was designed by an architect and professor Janez Koželj.
In 2009 the main exhibition took place in the Piran City Gallery and featured recent architectural achievements from Austria, Italy, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia. Accompanying exhibitions have also taken place, including the display Houses of the World by Hiše Magazine, and Vertigo Bird Vertigo Light by Vertigo Bird.
