The Sploh Institute is a private non-for-profit cultural organisation, established in 1999. Its founder Tomaž Grom dedicates much time to exploring expanded techniques for playing the contrabass in combination with electronics. In the year 2007 he received Golden Bird Award.



Programme

The Sploh Institute engages in music and theatre production, recording and education. It has produced projects for the music groups TILT, Alzheimer3 and CPG Impro, and has released two CDs (TILT Dvojnik and TILT by Tomaž Grom and Tao G. Vrhovec Sambolec). It has also presented various concerts and workshops within the framework of Maximatika, which focused on creating sound textures and musical structures with the help of live digital sound processing.The Institute has organised the stage performances Bruto, Before the Rain and Between Fruit and Flesh, and has co-operated with authors such as Tomaž Grom, Špela Trošt, Tao G. Vrhovec Sambolec, Primož Čučnik, Ana Pepelnik, Marjan Stanič, Luka Zagoričnik, and Matjaž Manček.

Projects

In collaboration with Šerpa Literary Art Association, Sploh Institute has organised several concerts in the framework of Con-Fine Aperto at Kodeljevo Castle.

International cooperation

Tomaž Grom has also toured and made appearances at several festivals throughout Europe and Canada. Among others he has played with: Dough Hammond, Sonny Simmons, Zlatko Kaučič, Evan Tate, Drago Ivanuša, Dieb 13, Will Guthrie, Jean-Phillipe Gross, Ferran Fages, Nicolas Field, Elliot Sharp, Ignatz Schick, Sabine Vogel, Sebi Tramontana, Jessica Lurie, etc. Tomaž has created music for numerous theatrical, dance and puppet performances and produced the CD La passion de Jeanne d’Arc (solo double bass ).
