Italian Community Giuseppe Tartini, Piran was founded shortly after the Second World War (in 1946) under the name Circolo italiano di cultura (Italian Cultural Society). Its mission has remained unchanged to this day: to preserve the Italian language and culture and to serve the needs of the Italian community in the Eastern Adriatic region. Originally, the main activity of the community was theatre. Today, however, the community organizes a variety of events, such as concerts, storytelling sessions for children, various workshops and even a carnival event happening on the Slovenian “pust” holiday. It also operates an Italian language library. The community is situated in the birth house of the great Italian violinist Giuseppe Tartini after whom it is named.
