The annual Transgenerations Festival of Youth Creativity was launched in 1984 with the aim of providing a public platform for art and culture produced by secondary school students in Slovenia and in Slovenian-speaking areas beyond the country's borders.
The festival, which takes place in spring at Cankarjev dom, is curated by a jury that selects the projects in advance from among those submitted by secondary schools and youth groups. The work, which must be original and be appearing for the first time, can be in theatre, dance, video, photography, design, the fine arts and literature, with comic writing also being added to the list in 2018. An exhibition of work accompanies the festival, which concludes with awards for the best work.
The festival also provides a platform for various institutions involved in art education for the young, including Maribor Dance Room, Celje Dance Forum, the Qulenium Cultural Association and the Public Fund for Cultural Activities (JSKD).
