The Union of Primorska Music Schools was originally established in 1964 as the Association of Music Teachers of the Koper Region, with the aim of organising regular meetings of pupils, professors, and instructors from elementary and secondary music schools in the Primorska region. Today the union continues to organise annual meetings and competitions with a view to developing creative cooperation among the Music School Ajdovščina, Music School Idrija, Music School Ilirska Bistrica , Music School Koper , Music School Nova Gorica , Music School Postojna , Music School Sežana, Music School Tolmin, Music School Trst, SCGV Emil Komel, Gorica, Music School Cerknica and Music School Vrhnika. Schools have yearly regional competitions for young musicians of Primorska region which qualify them for national competition.

The union runs two publishing projects: since 1999 the school magazine Primorska Sozvočja is regularly published. Written by music teachers, it covers concerts, musicological debates, the history of individual music schools, reviews of concerts and competitions, and interviews with composers, soloists and the like. The union has also released the score collection Trobila, which consists compositions for solo brass instruments and chamber groups.

Flavtistra, an international festival of young flute players took place in Music School Koper in November 2012 for the second time, featuring numerous concerts and presentations, workshops and exhibitions.
