The production agency Arsmedia was established in 1995 by Franci Zajc, a television producer with substantial production experience accumulated during the late 1960s, 1970s and 1980s on high-quality Slovene TV series such as Decameron [Dekameron] and feature films such as Blossoms in Autumn [Cvetje v jeseni]. The agency is a producer or co-producer for feature, short and documentary films.


Feature films

Arsmedia filmography includes several feature films, including the TV movie Triptych of Agata Schwarzkobler [Triptih Agate Schwarzkobler, 1996], directed by Matjaž Klopčič, the Austrian co-production Radio Doc (1995), directed by Miran Zupanič which was awarded First Prize at the Festival of Slovenian Film, and Dark Angels [Temni angeli usode], 1999, directed by Sašo Podgoršek.

In 2001 Arsmedia produced Poker by Vinci Vogue Anžlovar, Rascals! [Barabe] by Miran Zupanič and Sweet Dreams [Sladke sanje] by Sašo Podgoršek; all of them were awarded prizes at the Festival of Slovenian Film. Sweet Dreams also received prizes at the Film Festivals in Motovun and Valencia in 2001 and in Setubal (the FIPRESCI award) and Braunschweig in 2002.

Other works include the historical film Ljubljana the Beloved [Ljubljana je ljubljena], a co-production with Radio-Television Slovenia and Jadran Film, Zagreb directed by Matjaž Klopčič in 2005, and the cinema and TV hit Rooster's Breakfast [Petelinji zajtrk], a film adaptation of the novel by Feri Lainšček directed by Marko Naberšnik in 2007.

In 2010, together with Jadran Film from Zagreb and Radio-Television Slovenia, Arsmedia produced a historical romance Piran Pirano, a film made by a perspective young film-maker and a writer Goran Vojnović. The film was awarded at the South-East European Film Festival (SEE) in Paris.

Short films

Arsmedia has also produced several short fiction films, ranging from Pesem od Ballad of the Butcher [Pesem od Ludomorca], directed by Jane Kavčič in 1997 and Abyssinia (1999) by Karpo Godina to Heintje [Sirota s čudežnim glasom], 2003, by Miha Mazzini.

In 2006-2007 many short films by younger authors produced by Arsmedia were successfully shown at home and abroad: A Slice of Life [Rezina življenja], 2006, directed by Martin Turk received the Award for Best Short Film in the 9th Festival of Slovenian Film in Portorož and was subsequently screened at the Premiers Plans Festival in Angers, France, at the Huesca Film Festival in Spain in June 2007 and later in Valencia where the short film My Son, a Sex Maniac [Moj sin, seksualni manijak], 2006, by Goran Vojnović was also shown. Arsmedia also produced Edi Šelhaus: I Was There [Edi Šelhaus: Bil sem zraven], 2007, by Martin Gruden and Made in Slovenia (2007) by Miran Zupanič.

Short animated films produced by Artsmedia include Dissident [Disident], 2002, by Zdravko Barišić, and video features included Nataša Prosenc's Solitude for Two - Morning/Solitude for Two - Evening [Samota v dvoje], which won prizes at the Brooklyn Festival in New York and at the Festival of Short Film and Video New York EXPO in 2000.


Documentaries

Arsmedia has also produced various short documentaries and documentary essays (including several directed by Igor Likar), some portraits, and in 2002 the feature-length documentary Story of Mr P. F. [Zgodba gospoda P. F.] about the inventor Peter Florjančič and directed by Karpo Godina. For television it has produced the The Messenger of Slovenian Shores [Glasnik slovenske brežine], 2003, a documentary about Slovene comic artist Miki Muster, and Kocbek (2004), a documentary on the Slovene poet.

Most of Arsmedia’s productions are funded by the Slovenian Film Fund and Radio-Television Slovenia (RTV Slovenia), however, the documentary The Eyes of Bosnia, which won an award at the Festival of Slovenian Film in Portorož, was produced independently by Arsmedia using its own resources.
