The full-length feature films produced by Emotionfilm include: The Fatal Telephone Call [Usodni telefon] (1987) and Remington (1988) by Damjan Kozole; The Queen of Hearts [Srčna dama] (1991), by Boris Jurjaševič; the feature-length documentaries The Birth of Lear [Rojevanje Leara] (1993) by Damjan Kozole; Carmen (1995 - Vertigo) by Metod Pevec; Stereotype (1997) by Damjan Kozole; the feature-length animations The Socialisation of a Bull [Socializacija bika] (1998) by Zvonko Čoh & Milan Erič; Idle Running by Janez Burger; Porno Film (2000) by Damjan Kozole; Ode to the Poet [Oda Prešernu] (2001 - Vertigo) by Martin Srebotnjak; Bread and Milk (2001 - Vertigo) by Jan Cvitkovič. his film is a tragicomedy in which despair intertwines with humour, and optimism eventually defeats feelings of despair. Peter Musevski as the main role actor in the Spare Parts as well as in Bread and Milk won several prizes. The film was presented at the Edinburgh and Dublin film festivals and distributed in British cinemas.
In 2003 the company produced Spare Parts [Rezervni deli] (by Damjan Kozole and the Metod Pevec's film Under Her Window [Pod njenim oknom] (2003), which won an award at the Ljubljana International Film Festival (LIFFe) and was shown at the London Film Festival. In 2004 Ruševine ('The Ruins') by Janez Burger won the 2004 Festival of Slovenian Film. Its international premiere was at the international film festival in Rotterdam. In April 2005 it won the Reale Mutua Assicurazioni award at the Lecce Festival.
The film Labour Equals Freedom [Delo osvobaja] (2004), directed by Damjan Kozole, had its world première at the American Film Institute in Washington and its European premiere at the Locarno International Film Festival, and was successfully shown at 20 international film festivals and shows (in 2006 in Palić, Motovun, Edinburgh and the television festival Prix Italia). It also received international awards in Sarajevo, Wiesbaden and Valencia. Desperado tonic ('Desperado Tonic', 2004), a film by four young Slovene directors, was followed by several international co-productions.
Together with Forum Ljubljana the company co-produced the full-length feature film The Suburbs [Predmestje] (2003) by Vinko Möderndorfer, a social drama about the rise of xenophobia and nationalism, based on his novel with the same title.
Documentaries production
The documentary The Faces from Marianum [Obrazi iz Marijanišča] (2001 - Vertigo) by Helena Koder is a portrait of famous Slovene poets living in the boarding school founded in 19th Century. The short documentary film Harmonikarji ('Accordion Players') was co-produced by the ŠKUC Association.
The impressive film portrait The Alexandrians [Aleksandrinke] by Metod Pevec and co-produced by Radio-Television Slovenia (RTV Slovenia) about the life of women left the impoverished region of Primorska for Egypt as wet nurses, governesses, chambermaids or cooks in the late 19th won the prize for best documentary at the 14th edition of Festival of Slovenian Film in 2011.
International co-productions
Emotion Film also has a history of international co-productions: in 1997 it provided production services for the co-produced Czech-Slovene documentary film Dear Maestro [Dragi mojster] by Pavel Koutecky, dedicated to famous Slovene architect Jože Plečnik, and in 2000 it co-produced the Czech feature film Loners [Samotaři] by David Ondriček.
In 2003 Emotionfilm co-produced the film Red Coloured Gray Truck [Sivi kamion crvene boje] directed by Srdjan Koljević and produced by Komuna, Belgrade (Emotionfilm being the film's distributor). The Vertigo/Emotionfilm co-produced the Rajko Grlić's film Karaula in 2006, the film I'm From Titov Veles (by Teona Strugar Mitevska) with producers from Macedonia, Belgium and France in 2007 and the feature film Besa by Srđjan Karanović about the forbidden love between a Christian woman a Muslim man in 2009. The recent feature film The State of Shock [Stanje šoka] by Andrej Košak, produced in large collaboration with partners from ex-Yugoslavia, was premiered at the 2011 edition of Festival of Slovenian Film.
Recent productions
Recent productions by Vertigo/Emotionfilm include Estrelita (2007) by Metod Pevec, a co-production with Radio-Television Slovenia (RTV Slovenia), TV Sarajevo, Macedonian Sisters and Brother Mitevski Productions, Mediopolis Berlin/Leipzig and FIST Productions, Sarajevo, which was premiered at the Berlinale European Film Market in February 2007; and the full-length feature Reality (2007) by Dafne Jemeršić.
The film Slovenka (Slovenian Girl) by Damjan Kozole was premiered at the Festival of Slovenian Film in 2009 and later on screened internationally, being the first Slovenian film distributed in French cinemas (February 2011). Nina Ivanišin got awarded at the Mostra de Valencia 2009, and Les Arcs European Film Festival and Cinessonne Festival (Paris) in 2009. In 2012 the film hit the cinemas in Brasil as the first regularly distributed Slovene film in this country.
In 2010 the company produced teen film Going Our Way [Gremo mi po svoje] by Miha Hočevar, which hit a milestone in the Slovenian cinematography as the most watched cinema film with more than 180,000 viewers. One year later, drama Good Night, Missy [Lahko noč, gospodična] by Metod Pevec received three awards at the 58th Pula Film Festival, the oldest film festival in Croatia, for best cinematography, best leading actress and for best director in the minority co-productions section.
