The Slovenian Culture and Information Centre (SKICA) in Vienna was established in 2011 as a dislocated unit of the Embassy of Slovenia in Austria and based at the Slovene student house and cultural centre Korotan. The aim of the centre is to become a central forum and a representative of the arts and culture from Slovenia, to promote Slovene artists, especially in Vienna, and to unite artist from both sides of the border.

Mission and objectives

Together with the help of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology the aim is to expand the existing Slovenian Cultural Centre at the Korotan and include several other initiatives: to promote a culture and art programme; to build a multidisciplinary approach from all study fields and art disciplines; to establish a library and a reading room; and to create a cultural education programme for children and youth.

One of the central aims of the centre is to establish a residence for artists, guests and scientists, similar to the existing artist-in-residence programme conducted in Berlin, New York, London, and Paris by the Slovene Ministry of Culture.
