Ljubljana String Quartet was established in the 1950s. Its members have remained constant since 1983, and comprise Monika Skalar (violin, who is also a professor at the Academy of Music), Karel Žužek (violin), Franc Avsenek (viola) and Stane Demšar ('cello), all of whom are members of the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra and Camerata Labacensis orchestra. The Quartet appears regularly at concerts at home and abroad, presenting music from various periods, primarily by Slovene composers. Several of its recordings (Hugo Wolf, Beethoven, Brahms) have been released on CD. The Quartet also collaborates and records with other orchestras, for example on B Martinu’s Concert for a Quartet and the Orchestra, which was published by the Stradivari Records in the USA. The Ljubljana String Quartet received the Betteto Award in 1997.
