[[Niowt]] was formed in 1992 when Mojca Krevel and Peter Šenk co-wrote a stage score. Several concerts all around Slovenia followed during the 1990s, and in 1996 Niowt was invited to perform at Slovenia's most prestigious alternative music festival, Novi Rock. In 1997 Chrom Records of Berlin released the group's first album called Niowt. Some tracks from this album also appeared in the Gothic Magazine and Music Express compilation CDs. In 1999 the band won the [[MARŠ Walking Boot Award]] for creative, original and innovative rock music in the categories Best Album/Best Band 1998 and Best Song 1998 ('City'). In 2001, following the release of the band's second album Loverboy, Niowt played at the Zillo Christmas Festival, toured to Bochum, Stuttgart, Mainz, Potsdam and Chemnitz, and performed at Beachbum in Venice, at the Nuvolari Libera Tribu in Cuneo and at the [[Trnfest Festival]] in Ljubljana. In 2002 the band received a further [[MARŠ Walking Boot Award]] after being voted 'Best Group 2001' by the audience and music editorial board of [[Mariborski radio Študent (MARŠ)]]. The band subsequently gave a solo performance at the prestigious [[Cankarjev dom Culture and Congress Centre]], where their music was accompanied by video animations. Since that time Niowt has also performed at the biggest European dark music festival, Wave Gothic Treffen in Leipzig. The band's hit song Loverboy (Peter Penko's dance remix version) recently appeared in the prestigious Venusa XX Part II compilation, which was dedicated to female vocals in electronic music. In 2003 Niowt collaborated with theatre director Matjaž Pograjc and created 80 minutes of original music for his performance Play It Again, Caligula, later receiving an award at the [[Slovene Festival of Chamber Theatre (SKUP)]] in Ptuj for the original score.
