The Directorate for Science and Higher Education performs tasks in the field of professional higher and university education, and research.

For implementation of these tasks, the Directorate is divided into the Department for Science and the Department for Higher Education. It also incorporates an Education Recognition Unit, which functions as a national information point on the field of education recognition and performs the tasks of informational centre ENIC and centre for academic recognition NARIC.
