Cultural cooperation
Following independence, Slovenia succeeded to the 1968 bilateral agreement with Japan on Cooperation in the Field of Culture, which became valid for Slovenia in 1994. Since then some further legal bases for cooperation in culture, education, and science were established. Cooperation focuses on academic exchanges, arts, and educational projects.
The Japanese Government frequently invites young Slovenian leaders to participate in the "MIRAI" (Future) friendship program, a 7-day exchange focusing on Japanese society, history, and culture. The University of Tokyo offers Slovenian language lectureship.
