V.O.O.D.O.O. is a wordplay on V.O.O. and d.o.o. (d.o.o. meaning Ltd in Slovene, reading together reading voodoo in English). This design laboratory was founded in 2003 by Zoran Garevski, Petra Grmek, Nataša Peršuh, Jelena Prokovič and Helena Sebanc.
The designers opted for a form of collaboration that is very common overseas. "We have taken over the principle of operation of large foreign fashion companies, such as Gucci and Prada, which combine different brands and creative names under their auspices," explained Peršuh in 2004.
The company (with a common manager) covers various fields of work and used to unite four independent creators (Garevski, JSP, Nataša Peršuh, petragrmek). Their primary activity was fashion design, however, they also engaged in lecturing, counselling and training. V.O.O.D.O.O. members were all involved in styling and fashion editorials, advertising campaigns, costume creation and corporate identity design. They worked and continue to work in Slovenia and internationally (with the exception of Garevski, who passed away in 2014).
In 2004 V.O.O.D.O.O. creations were presented at the Fresh exhibition of Slovene contemporary fashion design hosted by Maribor Art Gallery.
Later, Peršuh and Gareveski represented the Comme des Garçons fashion brand for some time, and lastly they changed their name to Squat, wandering abandoned shops in Ljubljana, offering their own clothes and other designer clothes there, while also exhibiting and organising fashion shows.
Young@Squat is a Squat initiative that specifically supports selected talented young designers to. They are given the opportunity to present and work on various projects with the assistance and under the mentorship of established designers, which gives them valuable insight and offers guidelines for their independent careers.
