The topics of centre's interest are intellectual property and authorship, culture and economy, cultural education and culture as a factor in social development. Special fields of interest are conducted in severela parametres, among others: (i) material conditions of independent producers in the field of culture; (ii) comparative analysis of cultural policies in Slovenia and elsewhere; (iii) applied research studies, case studies, recommendations for change and modifications of cultural policies; and (iv) public discussions, lectures and round tables on cultural policies in Slovenia and abroad.
In the last few years the centre has conducted several research projects on the cultural industries, the economy of culture, reading cultures and publishing, and cultural education. Some results of the research projects have been presented in the book series Politike (for instance, a book on the independent social and cultural centre Metelkova mesto Autonomous Cultural Zone, a book on the cultural policies of some European countries, and a book on the economy of culture in Slovenia) and also in the book series of other publishers (for instance a book on reading cultures published by UMco). The research work is conducted with the Slovenian researchers and with the collaboration with researchers from the region and abroad. Most of the publications are published in Slovenian and English and are available online, as an abstract or in full as a pdf format.
Research work on material conditions of cultural production was published in a compendium Culture Ltd. (Kultura d.o.o.) in 2005 by Aldo Milohnić, Maja Breznik, Majda Hrženjak andBratko Bibič. Work is concerned with several topics, like the position of culture in the late capitalist society, the employment in cultural sector, the cultural infrastructure and education. More information is available in the fully accessible pdf format online.
The recent project included the conference on the cultural politics in the West Balkan with contributions from the researches from partner institutes and universities from the region. The conference was accompanied with the rethinking of the relations between states when it comes to culture.
