The Synagogue in Lendava is one of the three synagogues that remained in Slovenia. Along with theMaribor Synagogue, one of the oldest synagogues in Europe, the Lendava Synagogue (built in the 18th Century) functions as a historical heritage and a cultural centre. The third synagogue, the smaller praying centre at the Ljubljana Town Hall, serves for religious purposes.

In the past the Lendava Synagogue functioned as religious centre for Jews from the Prekmurje region. It had room for about 150 worshippers, next to the synagogue there was a Jewish school and a residence for the rabbi. The former School was demolished in the end of the 90s.

Today the cultural and art programme in the Synagogue is managed by the Lendava-Lendva Institute for Culture and Promotion (ZKPL-MPIL). It serves as a venue for concerts and exhibitions, current exhibition is devoted to the history of Jews in the Lendava region. In 2009 on the 60th anniversary of the state of Israel, the Synagogue hosted a photographic exhibition by David Rubinger. So far, the Synagogue also hosted many traditional, jazz and kletzmar musicians.
