The faculty changed its organisation and level of study many times in more than 50 years of its existence. In 1967 the College for Educational Sciences helped with the beginings of the Faculty of Education at the University of Maribor.
With the Bologna Process, the graduate and postgraduate programmes have adapted to changes in university teaching: the three-year BA, two-year MA, and three-year PhD programmes were fully introduced till 2010.
The faculty is active in publishing scientific and professional monographies and journals, it also houses a exhibition venue Gallery Pef, which hosts visual artworks made by students and many other artists (Zdenko Huzjan, Nina Koželj, Tomaž Gorjup, etc.)
The faculty is active in international projects and has signed agreements with many foreign university (Comenius and Central European Exchange Program for University Studies-CEEPUS, managed by CMEPIUS - Centre of the Republic of Slovenia for Mobility and European Educational and Training Programmes|CMEPIUS). Student and academic staff exchange at the faculty is possible within the framework of Erasmus programme.
The agreement for Erasmus student exchange is signed with universities in: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Slovakia, Turkey, United Kingdom.
