Founded in 1991 and based in Ljubljana, Art Rebel 9 (AR9) is the largest visual effects, CGI and animation company in the region. Concentrating initially on video game development and industrial CG visualisation, it subsequently moved into special effects and post-production for commercials and film. Its primary focus currently is on the development of virtual (VR), augmented (AR) and mixed reality (MR) applications, games and installations. It runs a full-featured studio with equipped with industry-leading hardware and software.

Art Rebel 9 has been heavily involved in helping to create, from concept to post-production, via VFX and animation, some of the most recognisable television commercials in Slovenia and the wider region for companies and brands such as Cockta, Unicredit, Telekom Slovenije, Triglav, Laško, Delo and Gorenje, among many others.

Emerging technologies

At the same time, it has established itself firmly in the field of emerging technologies, particularly AR and VR, producing tailored interactive products and experiences for a number of institutions and private companies, including SPIRIT Slovenia (an AR application in the form of an interactive map of the country that pinpoints the country's key areas of corporate success), the Kočevsko tourist information centre (a VR tour of areas of primeval forest closed to the public for environmental reasons) and the Herman Potočnik Noordung Centre of Space Technologies (interactive moon-exploration displays). The company's best-known excursion into virtual reality is the ski-jumping VR experience (2015), produced with the Pristop advertising agency for Zavarovalnica Triglav, which uses the Oculus Rift headset to deliver an authentic jumping experience and one that impressed several of the country's top athletes. The platform made an appearance at Expo 2015 in Milan and has won several awards, including the SPORTO Conference Award for Best Digital Communication, a DIGGIT Conference Award, and a SoMo Borac award in the technology category at the Weekend Media Festival in Rovinj, Croatia.

Film

Art Rebel 9 is an established presence on the Slovenian technical co-production scene, with credits that include Košarkar naj bo 2 (Let Him Be A Basketball Player, 2019), Realnost (Reality, 2008) and Američanke (100% Slovenian, 2005, which the company produced and distributed itself). It also contributed animation to the hugely popular Traktor, ljubezen in rock'n'roll (Tractor, Love and Rock'n'Roll, 2011).

The company also provides film post-production, restoration and colour-grading services via its affiliate Teleking, the leading video and audio post-production facility in the Balkan region. Teleking also sponsors the Best Feature Film Awards at the Pula Film Festival and the Festival of Slovenian Film.
