After graduating from the Department of Landscape Architecture, University of Ljubljana in 1995, Matej Kučina undertook further studies in landscape architecture and environmental planning at Utah State University in the United States. In 1996, he worked in the office of P Walker, W Johnson and Partners in Berkeley, California. In 2002, he co-founded Scapelab, a laboratory for spacial operations, with architect Marko Studen.
