After graduating from the Department of Landscape Architecture, University of Ljubljana in 1995, Matej Kučina undertook further studies in landscape architecture and environmental planning at Utah State University in the United States. In 1996 he worked in the office of P Walker, W Johnson and Partners in Berkeley, California. In 2002 he co-founded Scapelab, a laboratory for spacial operations, with architect Marko Studen.
