Organised every two years by the Brumen Foundation, this event seeks to provide a platform for visual design in Slovenia and internationally. The first Biennial was organised in November 2003 at the National Gallery of Slovenia in Ljubljana. 199 works were presented, and in an accompanying programme eminent designers Mieczyslaw Wasilewski (Posters and Drawings), Jean-Françoise Porchez (Typography Work), Bruno Monguzzi (The Naked Word) and Bo Linnemann (National Identity) gave lectures. The Brumen Award and Special Acknowledgements were granted to the best works in individual categories.
