The Department of Textiles offers undergraduate, taught postgraduate and guided research programmes in the Design of Textiles and Clothing. The basic objective of the Bachelor of Arts programme is to prepare qualified graduates for independent and unique industrial design work, as well as to ensure adequate fundamentals for postgraduate education in textile and clothing design. The study programme combines both textile technological and design skills, hence it draws on both basic natural sciences and artistic knowledge. Both the design of textiles and the design of clothing are studied. In postgraduate studies graduates gain the necessary expertise in a more narrow design field, leading to a Master of Arts degree in Design of Textiles and Clothing. MA and PhD programmes in Textile Technology and Graphic Technology are also offered. Research areas include textile and fashion design, industrial textile and clothing production and marketing, technical textiles and clothing, art textiles, interior textiles, national textile heritage, textile technology, graphic technology, costume design. sociology and philosophy. Other activities of this Department include publishing, textile archival work, expert opinions, advisory work, exhibitions and fashion shows, expert conferences, professional continuing education, open university and business services, students' and professors' exchange and collaborations. The Department collaborates on various projects with the [[Academy of Fine Arts and Design]] and the [[Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana]] as well as with other faculties.
