The Arab Club of Slovenia was established in 1992 as an NGO with its seat in Ljubljana. The club allows Arabs from various countries, who mostly arrived in Slovenia as university students during a period when the former Yugoslavia co-operated greatly with Arab countries, to meet and associate together. At the Arab Club people socialise more through culture and entertainment than through economy and politics. They aim to preserve their culture and at the same time link it to Slovene culture. The club organises courses of Arabic languages for children and runs the Arabic Library. It organises up to five events a year - for example, exhibitions by Arab painters who live in Ljubljana and Maribor and readings of Arab and Slovene poetry. Recently a youth dance and music folklore group named Sausan performed at a UNICEF festival at Križanke. Presentations of Arabic languages and calligraphy, dance, music, cooking and other customs take place regularly, either at Cankarjev dom Culture and Congress Centre or at Metelkova mesto Autonomous Cultural Zone.
