{{Abstract|

The [[Golden Coin of Poetry]] award was introduced in 2005 at the ceremony for the [[Veronika Award]] in order to honour a lifetime contribution to Slovene poetry. The first Golden Coin of Poetry was bestowed on poet and translator Ciril Zlobec, who had just celebrated his 80th birthday. Zlobec, the head of the first Veronika Award jury in 1997, received the award for his accomplishments in poetry and literature in general as well as for the development of the Slovene language.
