The [[Minka Skaberne Library for the blind and visually impaired]], Slovenia's only Braille library, was established in [[established::1918]]. Its roots date back to World War I, when many soldiers returned home from the battlefields with impaired eyesight, and [[Minka Skaberne]] (1882&ndash;1965), who had learnt teaching the blind in Vienna and Graz, began lecturing and laid foundations of a Slovene library of the blind.

In August 2014, the library moved to a new location in the very centre of Ljubljana. Besides the storage and lending of books and other materials, the library houses a modern sound studio, a gallery, a theatre hall and a reading room, thus becoming a new cultural centre.
