The Institute's starting programme focused on the research of cultural activitiy in Slovenia, combining elementary research projects with a wide range of disciplines: philosophy, history, archaeology, anthropology, ethnology, comparative literature, art history, geography, and also social sciences.
Since its inception, the Institute is an umbrella institution for researchers at the Faculty of Arts, also for the ones involved in the Young Research programme, run by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology and Slovene Research Agency (ARRS).
The research projects conducted by the researchers at the Institute are: core, applicative, post-doctoral, and international (bilateral and multilateral). The list and description of closed and still running projects is available on-line.
The Institute collaborated in altogether ten projects within different EU Framework Programmes. The Faculty coordinates and governs the project Daphne and is a part of Networks of Excellence Ramses2, Alpinet, and two network projects of the EU. From year 2004 till 2009 the Faculty of Arts collaborated in 18 bilateral international science projects and 36 other international projects co-financed by the EU.

Culture.si offers information on Slovene cultural producers, venues, festivals and support services, all in one place. It encourages international cultural exchange in the fields of arts, culture and heritage. The portal and its content is owned and funded by the Ministry of Culture, funded by the European Union Recovery and Resilience Plan and developed by Ljudmila Art and Science Laboratory.
