The [[University of Primorska]], the third university to be founded in Slovenia, was established in [[established::2003]] as one of the major projects entrusted to the Primorska region by the the country of Slovenia  after it had become independent. As a border-region educational institution, the university welcomes international exchange. The restructuring of its programme in accordance with the Bologna Declaration proceeded in cooperation with the [[Ministry of Education, Science and Sport]].

==Programme==
The university organises 33 undergraduate and 26 postgraduate study programmes in 6 faculties, which comprise the following: the Faculty of Education, the [[Faculty of Humanities Koper, University of Primorska|Faculty of Humanities]], the Faculty of Management, and the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Information Technologies (situated in Koper); as well as the Faculty of Tourism Studies &ndash; Turistica in Porotorž and the Faculty of Health Sciences and Livade University Campus in Izola.

Research is carried out by the [[Science and Research Centre of Koper (SRC Koper)|Science and Research Centre of Koper (UP SRC)]].

== International cooperation ==

The University of Primorska is a member of several international networks: the Mediterranean Universities Network for Sustainable Development (SD), which focuses on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD); the European Universities Association (EUA); the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED); the Rectors' Conference of the Universities of the Alps Adriatic Region (AARC); and the Slovenian Rectors' Conference.

It also provides opportunities for student and staff exchanges within the following programmes: ERASMUS, CEEPUS, and EGP Norway Grants. It holds bilateral agreements with universities and research institutions in Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, Israel, Kosovo, Mexico, Poland, Serbia, Taiwan, and the United States.
