Launched in 2018, the BigSEE Awards are presented each year in the framework of the Month of Design as well as one of its component events, the Big Architecture Festival. The awards recognise outstanding achievements in architecture and a wide range of design fields from throughout the 19-country Southeast Europe (SEE) region.

Since the inception of the Month of Design in 2003, the National Design Awards have played a central role at this comprehensive event. In 2018, the organiser, Zavod Big, ambitiously extended its focus to take in synergies between architecture, design and the private sector throughout the Southeast Europe region, rebranding as BIG SEE – Where Life Is Creativity. Accordingly, it supplemented the National Design Awards with the BigSEE Awards.

Awards

The BigSEE Awards are presented to creators from the 19 countries making up the Southeast Europe region in the following categories: Architecture, Interior Design, Product Design, Fashion Design, Tourism Design and Wood Design. Each year, awards in each category are given to a small number of exceptional grand prix winners and a somewhat larger pool of regular winners. Besides these awards, the National Design Awards are still presented for outstanding achievements in Slovenian design.

The BigSEE Visionary Award was also introduced in 2018 to commemorate the careers and bodies of work of the biggest creative names in the region. Visionary Award recipients to date include fashion industry icon Izet Curi, Bosnian design luminary Salih Teskeredžić, and urbanist and deputy mayor of Ljubljana Janez Koželj.
