About
Marjeta Grošelj, also dubbed "the first lady of Slovenian handbags", opened her boutique at Tavčarjeva ulica in Ljubljana in 1966. She later studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana before acquiring additional experience in Great Britain. Her leather accessories design, especially her handbags, have become "collectors' items". She has participated in the most prestigious fashion events in Slovenia, receiving the 2002 Trend Award for fashion and the 2003 Designer of the Year Award bestowed by Mercedes-Benz. In 2013, Marjeta Grošelj received an award for her life's work at the Elle Style Awards ceremony.
Marjeta Grošelj is by no exaggeration an icon of fashion design in Slovenia. She considers design a true art. For the 50th anniversary of Marjeta Grošelj's career, the organisers of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week prepared an exhibition called 50 Years of Victories, in which a selection of the best handbags by the world-famous Slovenian designer was presented.
Marjeta Grošelj is not going to retire. She says that she will continue designing handbags for as long as her health permits, because she has more than enough ideas. "Ingenuity knows no end. The work becomes easier with years, because the more you know, the more you trust yourself."
