Based at Metelkova mesto Autonomous Cultural Zone, KAPA Association for Cultural and Artistic Production has been active in the field of independent culture since 1994. Comprising the Gala hala auditorium, a practice room and a studio, it hosts approximately 100 events throughout the year, mostly concerts but also video projections, DJ nights and other activities aimed at developing young, alternative and non-authoritarian culture. Visitors can enjoy concerts not only by established musical groups, but also by younger and lesser-known bands. Most concerts are of the avant- and art rock, dub, hip-hop, punk/hard core variety, but KAPA also gladly hosts groups with different types of sound. KAPA has also some accommodation facilities for hosted musicians.

Lately KAPA has worked extensively in the field of international promotion of Slovene music (tours, concerts and residencies for groups such as Moveknowledgement, Red Five Point Star, Backstage, Srečna mladina, Olivija and Intimn Frizurn and DJs Dado and Borka). It also books Paprika Korps, East Rodeo, Radical Dub Collective and some other bands. KAPA collaborates with a wide range of festivals and agencies including Drugi Most (Grenoble), Festival du Monde aux Balkans, Kao Konnektion (Lyon), Project Zikeo, Alors, on le fait..., Palac Akropolis (Prague) and Know Your Neighbour.

KAPA is also a producer and has its own audio recording studio (see below) and record label, KAPA Records. Several concerts have been recorded live. KAPA also has its own publishing house and runs an educational programme called Pick Up.
