Borštnik Awards are bestowed at the central Slovene theatre festival Borštnik Meeting, Slovene Theatre Festival, held every year in Maribor. The awards for achievement in repertory and independent theatres include award for best performance, best direction, best actor, award for aesthetic breakthrough, award for special achievement (set, light, or costume design, musical score, etc.), and the Dominik Smole Award for best translation or adaptation of dramatic text. Every year the Borštnik Ring Award is presented, the highest award for lifetime achievement in Slovene theatre, which is given to an actor or actress who has left a major legacy to the Slovene stage.

The 2009 recipient of the Borštnik Ring Award is actress Minu Kjuder. For 2009 Borštnik Awards see Borštnik Meeting, Slovene Theatre Festival.
